Segment 1:

Topic 1 – August Newsletter
Let us break it down

Segment 2: Pantheon Patient

Tess – Pathfinder:Kingmaker! Loving it!

Militus – WoW Classic. IS. SO. GOOD. I played the hell out of the stress test. Loved playing Priest and Druid. Met so many friends IN. THE. GAME. What do you know… make the game difficult and encourage socialization and BAM… people start talking to each other. It is like MAGIC. This is great news for the future of Pantheon and its design philosophy.

Boom – DIVISION 2 PEOPLE!  What! Oh ya this is a great game.  I have been running groups with people everyday and I have made some good friends even on the Xbox!

Def – Destiny 2 and Overwatch as of late when I can

Punk – Legends of Aria – Totally died on a custom server and lost an entire day’s worth of work because I died on a main road and some turd looted my corpse. RIP all my money and gear.

Segment 3:  Forums and Reddit

Is the old school model really sustainable? (I want it to be.) by xtetsuix the Bard

I’m all for PRF as my favorite MMORPGs are FFXI & EQOA. I hope that PRF will provide at least a decade of enjoyment. My worry though, is that that style of game play is not sustainable. After people reach max level, and I know the caravan/level sync system will alleviate the lowbies not having anyone to play with, but eventually everything will be sitting at “end game”. Hence why retail EQ & FFXI are the way they are now.

This post sparked a HUGE debate about how to avoid the ptifalls of today’s MMOs. Ideas like server resets, very slow grind to max level, and even multiple jobs/spec to level for your class. What do we think:

Boom:  It is only sustainable if they release continual content or take the lead from some games like Division 2 that have innovated some parts (not all) of the late game.   You have to keep working towards something and they have some ways to make that happen these days. Ubisoft is figuring it out on a smaller scale. MMO’s could easily implement some of these systems are really make it great.

Militus:I am leaning towards a combination of two ideas. Make the leveling process LONG AF. I am serious. Like… I would love to level for 6 months – a year. I am not kidding. Make Loot meaningful, where you keep an item for months before an upgrade. After 3-4 years, offer a fresh start real rather than an expansion. If you do expand the base game, do so HORIZONTALLY vs. VERTICALLY (ie. GW2, but better)

Tess:

Def: I think this boils down to how the game feels. And having friends to play with. But tha game has got to look like a game made in 2021, this idea sparks from me going back and playing emulators. I could play EQ1 for the content alone, but in todays generation if the game  is going to be grindy and long, it needs to be fun af to play IMO.

Punk: I think this comes down to advertising, feature updates, and new content released that regularly impact the gamut of the level spectrum. You can put as many syncing features into the game as you want but you’ve got to compel the masses to actually want to go to lower-tier zones. Another thing that I think Project: Gorgon did very well was to require lower-level tradeskill materials in higher tier recipes. There’s much to be theory crafted around how this would work in Pantheon with regard to higher-level player saturation, mob density, and how you would actually require some sort of group dynamic but it could have a nice little impact on the economy as well.

;;po9We have to get rolling.

Getting Soft with the Community – Que metal for Get hard, then roll get soft music.

Boom – I am going to get hard with Bazgrim who has been taking passive-aggressive shots at me for weeks.  #communitymatters, but he should just go play EQ and leave me alone.

NathanNapalm: Player-driven freedom in Pantheon

PantheonPlus: Humans Race

MicaDoes: Wizard!

Chris Kane: Militus must apologize… his awesome video was “Mother Mage” not “Mother Moon” – I think I had a Night Elf Freudian slip there. 🙂
